James Summerfield is recording his forth album with the new band in July 2011. It will be released as a ‘name the price’ download, and if you really want hard copies, then these will be available through the Commercially Inviable website, and the Jamessummerfieldmusic.com online store.

Although we do not have an official release date, it’s likely to be available before Christmas 2011.

If you would like to order a signed hard copy of the album with artwork etc, then send an email NOW to james@jamessummerfieldmusic.com stating your name and address, then we will reserve you a copy and make contact with you once the official release date is confirmed (please note, you do not have to pay at this stage). James would also like to hear your ideas for album titles so make sure you email your suggestion before August 2011, and if it makes it, you’ll get a free copy!

I went round Richard Burke’s cat nest the other night. Aside from listening to the Villa scrape a win against Wigan, we discussed how pointless Myspace is, and how useful youtube is for marketing your music. He had previously uploaded his version of the Flying Pickets tune ‘Only You’ ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g7p8gdno4SM ) and got loads of hits due to it being a famous song.  Later the next day I spent a couple of hours recording a version of Philadelphia (Neil Young).

On another note, I am still working on my new album and hoping to record in the Summer.

Sadly, Simon Fox (guitarist, mandolin, banjo etc) is unable to join us as he has a date with ATP.

However, the good news is that we have aquired Dave Booth who plays lap and pedal steel, and he will be playing on these dates.  

Other news: the forth album is due to be recorded during the Summer and some of the new songs will be played at these gigs.

Look forward to see you, and if anyone can suggest an album title then please feel free to shout them out! (but not during the emotional songs!)

Mike Engles recorded radio sessions at the BBC for almost 40 years. He’s picked his top 10 favourite sessions and, amaziningly James Summerfield’s old Band ‘Buick 6′, later ‘The Toques) made it into the list!

The band were: Anna Russell, Campbell Docherty, Phil Robinson, and Craig Hamilton (all now Friends of the Stars). We had help from Jez Ince, Simon J Alpin (Willard Grant Conspiricy) and Julian Wilson (Grand Drive) , and the session was recorded on 18/08/2002.

Engles said; “This was one of the last Peel sessions I recorded. It was a good way to ‘go out’ as I really enjoyed the session. They did four songs, all of them quite different. They had drums, bass, acoustic steel guitar, keyboards and a string section. It certainly was not the usual drums bass guitar thrash. They did a country style version of the Black Crowes song Jealous Again. I like the Black Crowes. Jesus Make Up My Dying Bed is an arrangement of an old Blues Gospel song, again not a bad thing to my mind”.
